Pre-Operative Planning Clinic


The Pre-Operative Planning Clinic is now located at 1N600 on Level 1 of the North Tower within the Ambulatory Care Space. 

Patients will visit the Pre-operative Planning Clinic to help prepare for a surgical procedure. The surgeon decides the type of Pre-Operative Planning is right for you. Some patients may be interviewed by telephone and others may be scheduled for a Pre-Operative Planning Clinic appointment.

Hours of Operation:
Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
We are closed on statutory holidays and weekends.

The Pre-Operative Planning Clinic provides patient assessments, pre-operative diagnostic testing, and education to prepare you for your surgery and safe discharge from the hospital.

What to expect: 
Before your phone or clinic appointment:

  • Open your pre-op package and ensure all documents are reviewed and all forms are completed
  • At most 30 days beforehand, please ensure you visit your doctor for a complete history and physical in order to have the most up to date information about your health
  • Make a list of current medications and any non-prescription items such as vitamins or herbal remedies.

  If you are scheduled for a Telephone Interview:

  • Bring your completed forms to the Admitting Department on Level 1 of the new South Tower (1S106) at least two (2) weeks before surgery.


If you are contacted to schedule a Clinic appointment:

  • You will be asked to check the History/Physical document to verify if you require a consult with Anaesthesia.
  • Based on your needs, your clinic appointment will be scheduled with a Registered Nurse and if required, you will also meet with an Anaesthesiologist.
  • You will be asked to bring an up-to-date medications list, your medications in their original packaging and any non-prescription items, vitamins, or herbal remedies.

Total Joint Class – Hip and Knee Surgery
To better prepare you for your knee or hip surgery, you will be required to attend a Total Joint class. This class will help alleviate stress and make you more active in your care plan. You will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of our healthcare team such as nurses, pharmacists, occupational therapists or physiotherapists. Please feel free to invite a family member or a friend to join you.
