Nina's Place is the regional sexual assault and domestic violence care centre of Halton. It is unique as a model of survivor-centered care, named in memory of Nina de Villiers, the victim of a tragic murder in Burlington in 1991. You will be offered choices of care. Care will be directed by your decisions and move at a pace that you are comfortable with.
Depending on your needs, your care may include some or all of the following services
Seeking treatment and services at Nina's Place is your decision and completely up to you. The centre is comprised of a suite of rooms designed to meet the special needs of survivors (women, men and youth) of sexual assault and domestic violence in an environment of dignity, privacy and safety.
The suite features:
We provide specialized care for those who have experienced sexual assault within the past 12 days and/or recent domestic violence. However we strongly urge those who have been assaulted or abused to seek care immediately.
We also provide care to children who have recently told someone they have been sexually assaulted.
Our vision is to create a place of safety, dignity and comfort for adults, youth and children who have experienced sexual assault and or domestic violence. A place where medical and police reports may be made with sensitivity and in privacy, minimizing the individual's exposure to police facilities, the general public and the clinical environment of the hospital. Specially-trained nurses are on call 24 hours a day and respond within 45 minutes to any individual who wants service. Our Mandate: We will, within the mandate of our service, use and practice humanitarian and egalitarian ideals, where we acknowledge the intrinsic worth and dignity of all human beings accessing our services, and their right to inclusive and equal treatment while being sensitive to the issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and/or abilities of individuals.
At Nina's Place, we provide care for residents of Acton, Burlington, Georgetown, Milton and Oakville. Specially-trained nurses are on call 24 hours a day and respond within 45 minutes to any client.
