Medical Education and Teaching

Joseph Brant Hospital is a Clinical Education Campus (CEC) of McMaster University and is designated as an academic community teaching hospital of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Our hospital is committed to providing medical students and residents with the knowledge and skills to take them forward in their careers.

We offer clinical rotations to:

  • Residents
  • Medical Students
  • Physician Assistant Students - coordination is done through program coordinator at training program
  • Midwifery Students - coordination is done through program coordinator at training program
  • Dental Students

New Facilities for Learners

An exciting component for learners at Joseph Brant Hospital is the current Redevelopment and Expansion Project.

Phase 1 includes the construction of a brand new 3 story building which houses the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre (HMFHC) and the Department of Family Medicine of McMaster's Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. The HMFHC provides learners with state of the art facilities for their education.

What you Need to Know

For both Residents and Medical Students core rotations take precedence over elective rotations.

How to Apply

For all McMaster PG/UG learners you must visit the Mac-CARE website at maccare.mcmaster.ca to submit a rotation request form.

If you are not a McMaster learner, please register with the visiting electives office at mdelect@mcmaster.ca.

For non-McMaster Post Graduate (PGME) visiting electives please click here

All learners must request a Letter of Good Standing from their Medical School or Residency Program.

The Letter of Good Standing must contain the following information:

  • Name
  • CPSO and Student Number
  • Program
  • Year
  • Medical School you are attending
  • Type of rotation
  • Dates of rotation (start and end date)
  • Confirmation of good standing
  • Confirmation of immunization, mask fit test and insurance coverage.
