Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA)

On March 21, 2020 the provincial government announced a temporary order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

The order granted hospitals the ability to modify vacation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What this means for you

Under the new order, we are permitted to cancel or defer vacations. As well, as recall essential healthcare workers from vacation it warranted. 

Vacation Requests for February 1 to May 31, 2021

We are requesting that employees schedule a minimum of three (3) to five (5) vacation days between February 1 and May 31, 2021. Employees may choose to request vacation in one (1) day increments or full-week increments.

How to submit a vacation request

Submit your request through Kronos by selecting Request Time Off.

Reviewing vacation requests

Maintaining safe operation is priority. Requests will be approved on a case-by-case basis. When a decision has been made, a message will appear when you punch in at the beginning of your shift. You will also receive an email.

Some approvals may be last minute in nature.

Vacation carry over

Available vacation hours not used during the 2020-2021 vacation year will carry over.

Using your carry over

By April 1, 2021, employee's must provide their manager with a plan for how their carry over will be used. All 2020/2021 carry over balances must be depleted by September 30, 2021.

Carry Over Request Form

For this year only, there will not be a requirement to submit a Vacation Carry Over Request Form. Carry over will occur automatically.
