“The learning never stops!”

For Kristen, the opportunity to participate in shadow shifts while in nursing school allowed her to gain insight into the functionality, acuity and challenges inside of an Intensive Care Unit. When she was given the opportunity to participate in Joseph Brant Hospital’s New Graduate Initiative, she knew it would be an opportunity to build the foundation of her nursing career.

“Working in the ICU is an encouraging learning environment where we have exposure to many bedside procedures and work as a great interdisciplinary team,” she said. “The teamwork in our department allows us to think critically and work together to overcome challenging situations and treat patients.”

Over the last five years of her career at JBH, she has been frequently presented with challenging situations where she was encouraged to ask questions and be present. Each shift, she is exposed to many learning opportunities for growth. “Everyone on the unit works strongly together as a team and are supportive of our colleagues.”
