“A career in health care is an exciting and rewarding experience!”

For 23 years, Amy has been an integral part of the Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) team and today we share her story, celebrating her contributions as she retires on December 15.

After injuring her knee and receiving treatment from a physiotherapist as a teen, her interest in pursuing physiotherapy was sparked. While in high school, she volunteered in the physiotherapy department at a hospital and shadowed a physiotherapist in the community – this solidified her decision to pursue this career path.

Amy’s career at JBH began after the birth of her second child. She knew that juggling being a mother to two children, conflicting daycare drop-off times, and a commute to Toronto would no longer work, so she reached out to an old colleague who was working at JBH to see if the fit was right. Amy was hired shortly afterwards and hasn’t looked back since.

“I work with such wonderful people; they are why I have stayed here for so long.”

Throughout her time at JBH, she has had many opportunities for advancement and professional development.

“I began at JBH as a physiotherapist and am retiring as the Professional Practice Educator and Stroke Coordinator, which has by far been my favourite role. Throughout my time at JBH I connected with so many people across the organization; every day was different!”

We asked Amy if she had any words of encouragement for the next generation of healthcare workers:

“A career in health care is an exciting and rewarding experience!  Health care workers make a big impact by saving and changing a person’s life. There are so many career options available – the opportunities are endless.”
