Milestone Recognition Week – Cheryl Ramburn – Patient Experience Specialist, 10 years

During Service Milestone Recognition Week, we are celebrating a few service milestones of our staff and physicians.

Cheryl, a Patient Experience Specialist, has been at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) for 10 years. Read below to learn about what she likes best about working at JBH.

In her role, Cheryl provides support to programs, departments and services to ensure that the patient and family experience is aligned with JBH’s commitment to providing an exceptional experience of care.

“I always try and put myself in the patient’s or family’s shoes to get a better understanding of their perspective, and this is how I relay the information to the healthcare teams.”

After beginning her health care career as a Recreation Therapist in Geriatrics and Mental Health, Cheryl knew she wanted to pursue a patient-centered profession, and a colleague who worked at JBH encouraged her to apply.

“I really liked that Joseph Brant was a small community hospital, as I had always worked at bigger, multi-site hospitals. There was a real sense of team work, collaboration and community.”

In 2020, she established the Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC), which provides an opportunity for patients and family members to provide their valuable perspectives in shaping and informing the delivery of patient-centred care.

“At the time, establishing PFAC seemed like a daunting task, however, I was up for the challenge as it was a way for me to utilize the work I do on a daily basis and elevate it across the rest of the organization.”

Cheryl’s personal health journey as a patient at the hospital deepened her appreciation of the level of care, compassion and support provided by the staff.

“JBH will always hold a special place in my heart, as they cared for me, as a patient a few years ago when I was given a cancer diagnosis. I knew I wanted to be cared for at JBH, as I felt comfortable here and trusted in the staff and programs that were caring for me.”
