Digital Health Week - Spotlight - Digital Health Team

Posted on Friday December 03, 2021

Digital Health Week is from November 29 to December 5. This week we celebrate the work of our Digital Health Team who lead the transformation of digital health to support patient care.

“We work with one goal in mind and that is ensuring the best tools are available to staff to deliver the best possible care.”

The Digital Health Team works behind the scenes and around the clock to ensure that the flow of patient information between the Hospital Information System and other downstream applications isn’t disrupted.

A few weeks ago, we met with Marco Mugheddu, Manager, Technical Services & Communication and the team and asked them a few questions about the silent work they do.

“The key to our role is to be able to pivot and adapt to a realm of technologies and prioritize accordingly.”

The Digital Health Team work to ensure the support, stability and reliability of the infrastructure is maintained for the hospital. This often means working over night and during off-peak times to eliminate any major disruptions to hospital operations.

“On a monthly basis during a weekend, the team will perform extensive maintenance tasks overnight to ensure the entire server and network infrastructure are patched and secured of the latest threats faced today from a cyber security perspective.”

We asked them what was one thing that people might not know about the role their department plays in hospital operations?

“Maintaining the backend technology, such as the network and server infrastructure is a difficult and challenging task. The reliance and security of our data is a top priority and there is significant time taken to achieve a high level of up time for these systems to ensure the proper care and service can be delivered to patients and staff.”

During the beginning of the pandemic when those who could work remotely were doing so, the Digital Health Team had to immediately uplift and build the infrastructure needed to support the increased volume for remote users.

“Our team were dedicated and worked tirelessly in achieving this goal and I am proud of the great success this had on the organization.”

Thank you to everyone in the Digital Health Team for working behind the scenes to ensure that the best tools are available to staff to deliver exemplary and compassionate care to our patients.
