Milestone Recognition Week - Dr. Babita Kajal - Pathologist

During Service Milestone Recognition Week, we are celebrating a few service milestones of our staff and physicians.

Dr. Babita Kajal has been a Pathologist at Joseph Brant Hospital for over 5 years. Read below to learn about her role and what she likes best about working at JBH.

“Pathology is my passion; I can’t think of any other branch of medicine that I would like to work in!”

For the last five years, Dr. Babita Kajal has worked at Joseph Brant Hospital as a Pathologist. In her role, she works to provide diagnostic information to patients and other clinicians; working to rule in and out various differentials based on the nature of the material and clinical information provided to her.

“I work closely with surgeons, radiologists, emergency room physicians and hematologists,” she said. "My role is to provide a report with the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, grading, extent of the disease and margins (staging and grading of the disease)."

She was inspired to pursue medicine because of her parents, and fell in love with pathology when she was in medical school.

“Pathology attracted me most because it was so unique, colourful and yet at the core of all medicine.”

Dr. Kajal chose to work at Joseph Brant Hospital due to its location, situated right alongside the banks of Lake Ontario, the size of the hospital, and proximity to the downtown core of Burlington, as well as the opportunity to have a short commute.

“Most importantly, I chose Joseph Brant Hospital because of the people I work with.”
