Beginning her career as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the height of a pandemic had Gely questioning if nursing was really for her.

“I was working as a nurse at another hospital. I became burnt out and ended up quitting my full-time job because of it.”

After spending time reflecting on her next move, a close friend who was working at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) suggested that she apply to work alongside her in the Medicine Unit.

“My friend began sending me photos from the break room overlooking the lake and would speak highly of management, staff, and other clinical professionals.”

It wasn’t long before Gely knew what she wanted to do.

She applied for a new role as an RN at JBH—and after five months,, is confident she made the right decision to return to nursing.

For Gely, the culture of teamwork, professionalism and respect sets JBH apart. As well as, the opportunity to explore new interests and grow her competencies.

“There is a uniqueness within our department that I really appreciate. The professional practice educators and physicians collaborate to provide training and education during code situations. This completely prepared me for my first time attending a Code Blue,” she said

“Our porters are such a big help to us and our allied health, physicians and nurses collaborate to ensure that each patient receives quality care.”
