Join Joseph Brant Hospital's Board as a Community Representative!

Joining Joseph Brant Hospital's Board of Directors in 2021, Lisa Garland was looking forward to using her financial background to give back to her community.

“I had been on the board of a small Halton charity for seven years and really enjoyed my experience assisting people who needed my skills as well as advancing my own. When I noticed the advertisement for a Board member position at the hospital, I thought it would be a great way to give back.”

In her positions as the Vice Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) and Vice Chair of the Human Resources Policy and Compensation Committee (HRPCC), she works alongside a team of talented community and hospital leaders ensuring the right policies and mechanisms are in place to provide high-quality care for patients. These experiences have enabled her to gain a deeper understanding of the hospital's overall operations and its distinctions from other organizations.

“I have been on the Finance and Audit Committee the whole time I have been on the board and have learned a great deal about the unique financial funding model for our hospital, which is quite different than any other business and even most charities.”

Lisa is especially proud of the Board’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion over the last couple of years building principles and practices aimed at creating environments where all individuals are valued, respected, and have equal opportunities to thrive.

“Not only is the board trying to make sure it is diversified so that it represents the community we serve, but also assisting the hospital in the next steps to a truly inclusive community.”

Although Lisa has not been a Community Representative, she encourages others to join the JBH family and help make a difference in the community.

“Becoming a Community Representative is a great stepping stone to becoming a Board member.”

The hospital is currently seeking two new Community Representatives: one to serve on its Digital Health Strategy Committee of the Board and the other to serve on its Finance & Audit Committee of the Board. The ideal candidates are committed to community building, volunteerism, and making a significant contribution to improving the health and well-being of the people served by JBH.
