CARE During COVID-19 - Spotlight - Cathy

Posted on Thursday July 15, 2021

Joseph Brant Hospital’s Mission is to provide quality patient care. One way we do this is through our organizational values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (CARE).

Throughout the summer, we will be featuring stories about our staff who have lived our organization’s values and have worked behind the scenes contributing to patient, visitor and community care, and hospital operations throughout the pandemic.

“I am proud that I was able to come to work every day and be part of the larger team that was helping the community fight a global issue. I felt that everyone in the hospital and working from home was making their contribution.”

Cathy Park, a Health Records Clerk II, has been working at Joseph Brant hospital for over 14 years. Working on transcriptions, she is responsible for converting audio recordings into written reports, updating pre-operative packages to ensure that the appointment consultation and transcribed notes contain the most up-to-date information, and other administrative tasks.

“I remember my first day, I was so excited and proud to be working at my community hospital. The department was very welcoming and supportive and I knew that I found the place I needed to be.”

During the pandemic, as the hospital ramped-down scheduled surgeries to ensure that it had capacity to care for the incoming COVID-19 patients, Cathy found herself stepping up to complete work that coincided with the hospital’s needs. This work again changed when members of her department were redeployed to help support staff in the ICU.

“We worked as a team to ensure that everything that was required from within our department was completed. Whether we were short staffed, or covering for those who were ill, we all chipped in to make sure that what needed to be done was done.”

We asked Cathy if there was a moment from the last year that stands out while working at JBH during the pandemic.

“I feel fortunate to have witnessed so many acts of kindness to patients by fellow workers who were trying to ease fears during such uncertain times.”

Thank you Cathy for being a part of our pandemic response in caring for our community and for living Joseph Brant Hospital’s organizational values!
