Milestone Recognition Week - Melissa, RN, 35 years

One of our greatest strengths at Joseph Brant Hospital is our people. We are especially proud of the dedicated service, compassion and ongoing care that everyone within our hospital has given to patients and their families over the last year.

During Service Milestone Recognition Week, we are celebrating a few service milestones of our staff. These are individuals who have been a part of Joseph Brant Hospital for 30 – 50 years.

Melissa is an RN who has been with Joseph Brant Hospital for 35 years. We asked Melissa how in her role she is a positive ambassador to the hospital and what has kept her at JBH for 35 years?

“Nurses have an innate ability to bring people together, whether it be providing care, effective communication or just having a general understanding and compassion for the people and families we care for.

The need to establish trust between not only our patients, but also the trust that we have built with our colleagues; the knowing that you can count on the people you work with is one of the foundations of Joseph Brant Hospital.

We strive to provide the best optimum care for our patients and their families, whereby always being aware of the immerse and diverse culture the Burlington community represents and aligning our care with their cultural and religious values.

When I began my journey at Joseph Brant Hospital I said I would stay five years and move on, that was in 1984, and I stayed because the colleagues I work with, and those that mentored me along the way, are like a family to me. The flexibility and understanding my manager and the organization has given me, provided the opportunity to pursue other aspects of the professions through education both inside and outside of the organization; encouraging personal and professional growth.

As my full-time career comes to a close, I am thankful to have been a part of an organization that strives to ensure safe, quality, and optimum care for all their patients. “Let us never consider ourselves finished, nurses. We must be learning all of our lives” (Florence Nightingale)”
