During Medical Radiation Technologists Week, we celebrate all of our Radiation Technologists at Joseph Brant Hospital, who hold an integral role in the health care process, delivering quality imaging and radiation-related treatment services with a caring touch.

“I see every patient as someone I care about and provide them with the same attention and respect that I would want my loved one’s to receive.”

Maha is a Medical Radiation Technologist who has spent the last nine years working at Joseph Brant Hospital. Both being fascinated with the science of X-Ray and wanting a career that was central to delivering patient care is what inspired her to pursue this role.

“When we have patients in our care, they are our responsibility. We must ensure their medical needs are met, but we must also tailor their care and meet their needs and values, respectfully and compassionately.”

As an MRT, she works with a variety of imaging equipment throughout the hospital. Some of this equipment is stationary, such as an X-Ray machine in a designated room, and other imaging equipment that is mobile and allows MRTs to complete tests at the bedside of more critical patients.

MRTs can also be found in operating rooms (OR) assisting surgeons with special imaging needed for various procedures.

“When we work inside of an OR, we use a large mobile fluoroscopy unit, also known as a C-arm, which shows a continuous x-ray image on a monitor. This type of imaging helps to guide a surgeon during various procedures and gives them a road map of the area they are operating on.”

In addition to working as an MRT, she also works as a Preceptor for McMaster-Mohawk Radiography students. In this role she has the opportunity to help shape and guide future MRTs.

“I have been inspired by many wonderful mentors and educational leaders that helped to shape me into the technologist I am today. Having the opportunity to shape and guide our future MRT’s is a privilege and I am very grateful for this role.”
