When Corrine Kennedy first began her legal career, she spent much of her time commuting into Toronto, where she worked as an associate and, later, a partner at Aird Berlis LLP. Later, she joined the Burlington office of the Co-operators group of companies, where she is currently an Associate Vice-President in Enterprise Legal. As her children grew and became more involved in local sports and school activities in Burlington, Corrine wanted to give back to the community that had given so much to her growing family.
In 2018, she joined Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) as a Community Representative on the Quality Committee and then became a member of the Board of Directors in 2020, just before the Covid pandemic caused a radical shift in the hospital’s day-to-day operations. It was one of the most challenging times in healthcare, and Corrine was impressed by the dedication of the hospital team and fellow board members during that difficult period.
“It became clear to me very quickly how complex the hospital environment is and the immense pressures it faces,” she said. “I am in awe at the creativity, dedication and talent of everyone at JBH, from the leadership team through to all the professional, clinical and non-clinical staff.”
In addition to her legal background, and serving as the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Partner at Aird Berlis LLP, Corrine is qualified as a Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional by the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion. She was a finalist for the 2022 Chambers Inclusion Award, In-House Category. Her career has been defined by a deep commitment to equity, and she brings a clear message to institutions looking to create safe, respectful environments: Inclusion isn’t a checkbox exercise - it’s a journey that requires commitment and intentionality every step of the way.
She wanted to be part of JBH’s journey in creating that culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and came to the hospital as it was becoming a key area of focus.
“It was exciting to be on the ground floor of JBH’s DEI journey. I have been honoured to share my experiences and learn from others along the way. I hope to contribute, in some small way, to the ongoing work of shaping a culture at JBH that resonates with every employee and patient who walks in the door,” she said.
Corrine’s story is one of leadership, compassion, and community. With her support, we are working to create an environment that reflects the growing diversity of Burlington and the surrounding area, a hospital where quality, safety, and health equity are front and centre, a place where everyone can feel they truly belong.
