At Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH), we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Anesthesia Assistant (AA) to join our close-knit team. Our hospital offers a collaborative environment where every member plays a key role in providing excellent patient care. As part of our team, you will have the chance to make a significant impact on patient outcomes while working alongside skilled professionals committed to high-quality care.
Sherri, a long-time employee, shares her experience:
"I’ve been with JBH since 2004, starting as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the Operating Room (OR). Although this role was established at larger hospitals, JBH was just beginning to develop it. In 2007, I advanced from an RRT to an AA. My prior experience at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto allowed me to contribute right away."
Living in Burlington and commuting to Toronto, Sherri found the opportunity at JBH to be a perfect fit, offering a better work-life balance. She explains, "At Joseph Brant, it wasn’t just about the job—it was about the people. Everyone greeted me by name, from the staff at Tim Hortons to those in purchasing and beyond. That sense of connection was one of the changes I noticed when I made the move."
The OR environment is both professional and supportive, with constant feedback from anesthesiologists. Sherri reflects, “Their appreciation and daily input help us grow and remind us of the impact we have on patient care, she says. “The anesthesiologists are not only dedicated, but also continue to mentor, fostering strong, trusting relationships with their AA’s.”
The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) team at JBH is a small, tight-knit group with opportunities for growth. "The AA role is vital, there are many areas where out expertise are needed," Sherri says.
As an Anesthesia Assistant at JBH, you’ll be involved in complex cases, helping save time and ensuring critical moments are met with swift care. The role includes a large pediatric component, where attention to detail and understanding the unique challenges of pediatric anesthesia is vital. Additionally, AAs assist in the obstetrical program, ensuring that anesthesia providers can focus on providing daily care to mothers and babies.
You’ll also provide sedation for patients undergoing ophthalmology procedures, ensuring a calm, stress-free experience for the community.
Beyond direct care, the AA team contributes to innovations that improve efficiency and outcomes. For instance, Sherri developed a block room for regional anesthesia, which will reduce anesthesia time in the OR, allowing more cases to be completed, especially in the same-day joint replacement program. This innovation will improve operational efficiency, helping JBH treat more patients without compromising care quality in the future.
If you’re looking to make a meaningful impact in patient care, work with a dedicated team, and enjoy a fulfilling work-life balance, we encourage you to apply. JBH offers a professional, supportive environment where everyone plays an essential role in patient care.
