Prioritize Your Health This Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 1, 2024
Joseph Brant Hospital’s Comprehensive Care and Support

October is a crucial time for raising awareness about breast cancer, and this year, Breast Cancer Awareness month brings an important update for Ontario residents. As of October 8, 2024, the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) is extending its services to include individuals aged 40 to 49. If you fall into this age group, you are encouraged to discuss with your referring physician whether a screening mammogram is right for you.

Dr. Belton, Chief of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH), emphasizes the significance of early detection: “Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer. We encourage everyone in this age group to consider getting a screening mammogram. This proactive step could be life-saving.”

At JBH, the Breast Assessment Centre is dedicated to supporting individuals throughout their entire breast care journey—from diagnosis to treatment and beyond. Our comprehensive care is facilitated by a range of specialized teams, each contributing to the overall quality of care:

  • Diagnostic Imaging: Our team of technologists, sonographers, radiologists, and clerks ensure expert imaging and effective diagnostic procedures.
  • Surgery: Skilled surgeons and surgical teams, including nursing staff, play a crucial role in treatment.
  • Complete Breast Care Ambulatory Clinic & Outpatient Oncology: Physicians, nurses, clerks, nurse practitioners, and social workers provide thorough care and support in this multidisciplinary setting.
  • Laboratory: Our pathologists, medical laboratory technologists, pathology assistants, and clerks work meticulously to analyze and interpret diagnostic results.
  • Pharmacy: Our pharmacy team is essential in managing medications and providing pharmaceutical care tailored to individual needs.

Dr. Mariam Ghali Eskander, Lead Radiologist for Breast Imaging at JBH, underscores our commitment to patient care: “Our advanced mammography machine, state-of-the-art sensory suite, and compassionate, empathetic technologists work together to make breast cancer screening a more comfortable experience. We are committed to reducing patient anxiety and ensuring a supportive environment. Don't delay, book your mammogram today.”

Joseph Brant Hospital is here to support you every step of the way, offering top-notch care and a compassionate approach to breast cancer screening and treatment. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, take the opportunity to prioritize your health and make an informed decision about screening.
