A Legacy of Giving: The Final Chapter of the Auction of Antiques and Collectables

August 20, 2024

For 26 years, the annual live Auction of Antiques and Collectables event in support of Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) has been a beacon of generosity and community spirit. This cherished fundraising event has not only celebrated the allure of antiques and collectibles but has also played a vital role in enhancing the hospital’s services, raising over $1,000,000 to support its mission.

This year, we invite you to join us on September 14, 2024, for the 2024 Live Auction and Marketplace Sale at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church in Burlington. This final fundraising event promises to be a fitting tribute to the legacy of service and community support that has defined our auctions. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on unique antiques and collectibles and explore our popular marketplace sale, all while knowing that their contributions directly benefit JBH.

As we approach the final year of this longstanding event, we reflect on the incredible journey that has brought us here. Pat, who has been an integral part of the event organizing Committee for 26 years and currently serves as its Chair, has exemplified tireless dedication and leadership. The committee’s efforts—appraising donations, managing pickups, coordinating large items and artwork, and overseeing advertising, venue selection, auctioneer arrangements, etc.—have been instrumental in its success.

The initial auction was established to support the Hospital. Through the dedicated efforts of the committee over the years, the funds raised have been used to purchase surgical lights for the operating room suites, an ultrasound machine for the ICU, specialty stretchers, and to support the new cancer clinic. Additionally, the auction has contributed to the redevelopment fund for the new tower. This year, the funds from the auction will be dedicated to supporting the CT Scanner fund.

Set to begin her 45th year in September, Pat’s passion for volunteering at and supporting Joseph Brant Hospital is driven by a deep desire to make a positive impact in our community. The Antiques Auctions have always drawn enthusiastic crowds, and this final event will be no exception. It’s a chance to find irresistible items and contribute to a cause that has touched countless lives.

Join us for this memorable occasion and help us celebrate the remarkable journey of our auction. Your support will ensure that we continue to make a difference in the lives of those who rely on Joseph Brant Hospital’s essential services.

Joseph Brant Hospital recognizes that our hospitals and community-based services are provided on the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and recognize this land as being home and traditional territory to other Indigenous people since time Immemorial.

We must commit to not repeat past mistakes and to work towards more equitable and respectful relationships with the First Nations, Inuit (i·nyoo·uht), and Metis (mey-tee).

Acknowledging the territories and the original stewards of these lands is a fundamental responsibility of our organization and part of our commitment to work towards Truth and Reconcillation.
