During Patient Experience Week, Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) celebrates and honours the importance of the patient experience in healthcare, highlighting the significance of patient-centred care and improving the overall experience for patients and their families.
Jo-Ann, a patient at JBH, shared her positive experience at the hospital after an incident on Christmas morning, 2023.
“I tripped over a family member's dog and broke a bone in my shoulder, and a trip to the Emergency Department (ED) at JBH was required,” she said. “With the aid of the nurses in Triage, the X-ray technician, the Orthopedic doctor on call and the nurse who expedited my appointment at the Fracture Clinic, my suffering was reduced to a point that gave me time to assess my options.”
From Jo-Ann’s entry into the ED to her surgery, her overall concern for her emotional and physical well-being was consistently met with compassion, care, and understanding.
“The doctors, nurses and other hospital staff at JBH were able to make me feel that my well-being was their primary focus, despite the critical shortage of staff working throughout my appointments. Their professionalism, kindness and commitment to my comfort made a significant difference in my healing process.”
Patient Experience Week serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing the needs and preferences of patients in healthcare delivery and of the collective efforts required to ensure positive experiences for all individuals receiving care.
