Wayne Hong began his journey at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) as a Community Representative in 2022. With his experience in the financial services industry, he wanted to find a way to give back to the community while learning about a new field.
“It is rewarding to serve on the JBH board, as my technology and financial services experience is very applicable and transferable. The experience opened my eyes to the health care industry and its impact.”
After being appointed to the Digital Health Strategy Committee in 2022, and now serving as a full Board member, Wayne has learned a great deal about the complexities of the healthcare system and its impact on the connection of the community.
“The most touching element is that, ultimately, we are here to help people. It’s the human compassion and positive impact every hospital staff makes that really matter.”
As a former Community Representative, Wayne encourages others to seize the chance to enact change within a hospital environment that values and considers all viewpoints.
“All voices are heard, valued equally, and make a positive impact toward the strategy governance and day-to-day running of the hospital.”
The hospital is currently seeking two new Community Representatives: one to serve on its Digital Health Strategy Committee of the Board and the other to serve on its Finance & Audit Committee of the Board. The ideal candidates are committed to community building, volunteerism, and making a significant contribution to improving the health and well-being of the people served by JBH.
