Symptoms of COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19

Symptoms range from mild (like the flu and other common respiratory infections) to severe. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • fever
  • new or worsening cough
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • difficulty swallowing
  • loss of sense of smell or taste
  • nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • nasal congestion or runny nose (without other known cause, such as seasonal allergies)
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • chills
  • red eyes

Symptoms in children, older persons and people living with a developmental disability may be atypical (such as unexplained fatigue or falls).

In rare cases, COVID-19 can cause vasculitis in children. This condition can present with persistent fever, abdominal pain, red eyes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and rash.
