Supply Management

Maintaining & Protecting our Supply

Joseph Brant Hospital has implemented measures to maintain and protect our supply of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Supply rooms are badge access
  • Masks with visors and surgical masks are available on request at the Communication Station.
  • N95 masks are being centrally housed with some exceptions

Surgical masks

All staff and physicians are to wear a procedure mask when at work.  You will receive your mask on entry to the hospital at the screening checkpoint.

Surgical masks are to be changed when wet, damaged or visibly soiled.  As well as, after eating or drinking.

Face shields

Every patient-facing staff and physician should have their own reusable face shield. Face shields are now to be worn in all patient-care areas.

Extended-use of PPE

Surgical masks, N95 respirators and face shields

Staff and physicians are to wear the same surgical mask, N95 respirator and face shields for repeated patient encounters.

What to do if they become visibly soiled or damaged

  • Surgical masks, N95 respirators and isolation gowns should be discarded.
  • Face shields should be wiped clean.

Isolation Gowns

Isolation gowns should be used when caring for patients under droplet contact precautions and removed between every patient encounter.

What to do if they become visibly soiled

  • Isolation gowns should be discarded.

Re-purposing N95 masks

N95 masks are not being reused at this time, but may be in future. Do not dispose of used N95 masks.  They will be collected at the end of your shift.

If your N95 respirator is damaged or visibly soiled, discard it.
