Flu Season Reminder

Flu-Season-Reminder

Joseph Brant Hospital would like to remind you how you can stay healthy during influenza season. You can protect yourself by:

  • Getting the influenza vaccine.
  • Staying home if you feel sick so that you don't infect others.
  • Washing your hands frequently; this will help prevent the spread of infections.
  • Coughing or sneezing into a tissue, or your sleeve.
  • Keeping commonly touched surfaces disinfected.

Visitors and patients can get the flu shot from Golden Care Pharmacy, located inside the North Tower of JBH.

In most cases, Influenza symptoms can be treated with rest, fluids and medicine to reduce fever. If you feel very sick, you should contact their health care provider or visit a walk-in clinic. Those who experience more severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, or have other concerns should visit the Emergency Department at their local hospital where they will be seen based on the severity of illness, rather than on a first come, first serve basis

For those coming to Joseph Brant Hospital to receive care, you may see healthcare workers wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gowns and masks that cover the nose and mouth. Depending on your symptoms, you may also be asked to wear a mask. These are pre-cautionary measures to protect patients and families and JBH staff, physicians and volunteers from seasonal infections.

For visitors coming to Joseph Brant Hospital, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, we ask that you do not visit until your symptoms subside.

  • Fever, chills
  • Cough, sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
