Pride Month: What does Pride mean to you?

Posted on Wednesday June 30, 2021

As we wrap up Pride Month, a time to celebrate the impact, history, courage and diversity of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, we asked our staff and physicians what Pride means to them and what it means to be an ally to the queer community.

Here are a few of their answers.

Leah Martuscelli, CHRO

“Pride to me means celebrating each other for what makes us unique. Personally and professionally, I strive to create an environment, culture and workplace that people are proud to belong to without judgement or fear of being who they are.

When I see the Pride flag, it makes me think of equality, inclusivity and the beauty of community. No one colour stands above the rest as they work together to create something beautiful. I believe that by treating all individuals equally, we can create something just as beautiful in our communities.

As an Ally, I work to support this community not only in the times of celebration like Pride Month, but throughout the year to ensure that members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community feel respected, included and proud of who they are each and every day.”

Megan Franklin, Health Care Aide

“To me, Pride means treating everyone with equality and having the right to love whoever, wherever and whenever as whoever you chose!”

Nathalie Leonardo, RN, Joseph Brant Hospital

“Pride to me means living a life that is authentic and true to who you are. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe that pride is saying ‘This is who we are, and we are proud of it!’

I am privileged to work at Joseph Brant hospital as this hospital incorporates inclusivity and equality. Feeling safe at work helps ensure intersectional discussions in everything we do, both personally and professionally. Love is love.”

Joseph Brant Hospital stands in solidarity with members of the LGBTQ2S+ community and wishes everyone a Happy Pride!
