Joseph Brant Hospital’s Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC) provides an opportunity for patients and family members to provide their valuable perspectives in shaping and informing the delivery of patient-centred care. The PFAC makes a meaningful difference in the lives of current and future patients and families by working with staff to share the patient voice for new and evolving programs, services and offerings.

The PFAC is looking for new members to join its team. Members must have received care as a patient or been a family member of a JBH patient in the past three years.

Being on the PFAC is an impactful role for the hospital and those who are PFAC members. We talked to Susan, the PFAC Co-Chair to understand why her volunteering on PFAC is important to her:

Why did you decide to join the Patient Family Advisory Council?

I was pleased to be able to join the PFAC after my mom spent 5 weeks in Joseph Brant Hospital.  I love the concept of being able to offer suggestions and constructive feedback on service initiatives, ideas and topics brought forward to make the patient and family journey easier to navigate.

What is the most rewarding part of being part of the PFAC?

The most rewarding part is when we are able to provide input from a patient or family members’ perspective to help hospital staff understand issues from a different point of view. We have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of current and future patients and families.

Why should someone join the Patient Family Advisory Council?

This is an excellent way to provide input on both new and current initiatives and support the hospital while making a difference for patients and families during their stay at JBH.  As a PFAC, we feel valued and appreciated for the work we do by the hospital staff, and feel that our involvement is making a difference.
