National Payroll Week - Spotlight - Simi

Joseph Brant Hospital’s Mission is to provide quality patient care. One way we do this is through our organizational values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (CARE).

Throughout the summer, we will be featuring stories about our staff who have lived our organization’s values and have worked behind the scenes contributing to patient, visitor and community care, and hospital operations throughout the pandemic. This week is National Payroll Week and it celebrates the contributions of payroll professionals.

Simi is an Interim Payroll Supervisor who has been at Joseph Brant Hospital for over a year and a half. She was first hired as a Payroll Specialist in the Finance department and has since transitioned into her current roIe.

“I always enjoyed working with numbers. I completed my Payroll Certified Practitioner and Financial Accounting Diploma in 2002. After completing these specialities, it opened up many job opportunities. Since 2004, I have been working in health care.”

There are approximately 2,000 employees at Joseph Brant Hospital, thus making payroll a busy place on any given day. Simi’s ability to take initiative, assist her colleagues to ensure deadlines are met and provide excellent service to allow her department to excel as a team are a few of the reasons she demonstrates our hospital’s organizational values.

 “I take a lot of pride in providing excellent payroll service and ensuring all deadlines are met, and audits are done in a timely manner.  It’s really rewarding to provide such a vital service to our internal and external stakeholders.”

We asked Simi if there was a defining moment that stands out during her career at JBH that made her truly appreciate working for the organization.

“I feel fortunate to have a management team who is very supportive and promotes a good work culture. We have a weekly Kudo Culture department meetings to acknowledge and appreciate the work done by colleagues, teams or a department. This exercise in recognizing everyone's effort makes a big impact on ones value in the organization and drives you to want to succeed for the team.”
