On Admitting Clerks Day, we celebrate the contributions of our hospital admitting and registration staff who are one of the first contacts a patient interacts with when they receive service at the hospital. Today we are taking you behind the desk to learn more about this team at Joseph Brant Hospital.

“I enjoy the opportunity to provide patients and their families a positive experience during what may be an otherwise stressful or traumatic time for them.”

Fifteen years ago, after being inspired to pursue a career where she can make positive contributions in others’ lives, Anastasia, Clerk IV and Team Lead, began working in the Registration and Admitting department at Joseph Brant Hospital.  A place where she also has a personal connection as all five of her children were delivered here. We met with her and asked her about the importance of the role of registration and admitting, her contributions to our hospital, and how she lives our CARE Commitment.

“Admitting and Registration clerks are tasked with the inputting and maintenance of patient demographics and ensuring that patient privacy is upheld.”

Admitting and Registration supports in-patient and out-patient registration for Ambulatory Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Labour & Delivery, Maternal & Child, Surgical Services and preferred accommodation requests.

“A significant part of my job is to ensure that our data collection is as accurate as possible.”

The information collected by these clerks is shared with a patient’s health care team to ensure, safe, quality patient care. Currently, Anastasia is working alongside her Manager to develop a data quality process to measure this work and to support and educate staff of the expected work standards.

Additionally, as a Team Lead, part of her role is to support with the management of staffing and ensuring that there is appropriate coverage for her department. During the pandemic, additional resources and coverage was needed to help staff the COVID-19 Assessment clinic.

“Over the past two years, the Admitting & Registration Department has continuously provided support to where the need was greatest. We have a great team of dedicated individuals who really pull together when needed.”

We asked Anastasia how she lives our hospital’s CARE commitment.

“I try to live our CARE commitment each day by being compassionate when registering patients, understanding this may be a difficult time and having patience with people that may be having a difficult day. I'm accountable for my work and always follow up to ensure accuracy, while also ensuring that I am respecting patient privacy. Through my Data Quality role within the department, I strive for excellence in ensuring data is accurate.”

Thank you Anastasia for your commitment to our hospital!
