CARE During COVID-19 - Spotlight - Taherul

Joseph Brant Hospital’s Mission is to provide quality patient care. One way we do this is through our organizational values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (CARE).

Throughout the summer, we will be sharing stories about our staff who live our organization's values, working behind the scenes to contribute to patient, visitor and community care, and hospital operations throughout the pandemic.

Today we are featuring Taherul, a Database Systems Engineer who helped to create the COVID-19 Assessment Centre online booking systems.

“I am not a front-line worker, yet behind the scenes I had the opportunity to contribute during the pandemic and that makes me proud.”

Taherul has been with Joseph Brant Hospital for just over a year. On his first day, he received a tour through the hospital with his Manager, and a short time later, was thrust into the hospital’s collective pandemic response.

The COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Joseph Brant Hospital required an online booking system to allow the community to self-book, reschedule and cancel their COVID-19 tests in real-time.  This system was created by JBH’s Information Technology Department, including Taherul. .

“We were one of the first hospitals in Ontario to build our own COVID-19 Assessment Centre online booking system.”

To get this system up and running, Taherul went over and above expectations, working numerous hours outside of his regular shifts, and even throughout the night for testing and launching the system to ensure it was ready for the community’s use.

“It was a great degree of challenge for our small team and the overall scope was extraordinary.”

We asked Taherul what he was most proud of in his contributions during the pandemic.

“I am most proud of how we worked hard and applied innovative technologies as best as we could. In the end, members of the community found our booking system very easy to use and efficient. I am proud to be a part of this team.”
