It was personal reasons that inspired Krista to become a Speech -Language Pathologist (SLP).
“My mom is also a Speech-Language Pathologist, so I have always been familiar with the profession and admired the work she did. It wasn’t until I was in university, when my brother became sick and lost his battle with a brain tumor, that I realized I wanted to be an SLP.”
Krista Davie is a SLP at Joseph Brant Hospital where she assesses, diagnoses, treats and helps to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Speech-Language Pathology is offered as both an out-patient service in the Speech Language Pathology Clinic at Joseph Brant Hospital, as well as a component of inpatient care.
Krista and the team of SLPs at Joseph Brant Hospital had to re-evaluate their processes during the pandemic to ensure that they remained safe as clinicians, but could still effectively provide their services to patients.
“It forced us to become even more flexible to the constantly changing demands and guidelines. However, being flexible is something that is required within our role as Acute Care SLPs!”
They have had to balance working to keep patients safe while admitted to the hospital, while also respecting their patient’s goals and wishes.
We asked Krista what the most rewarding part of her job is.
“It’s seeing patients improve and being able to resume their normal activities. Witnessing someone being able to resume the things they love and to be a part of that is really special.”
Thank you Krista for all that you do for our patients at Joseph Brant Hospital!
