Joseph Brant Hospital to Provide Temporary Management of Long-Term Care Home in Mississauga

Posted on Wednesday November 25, 2020

Effective today, Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) will assume temporary management of the Tyndall Seniors Village long-term care home in Mississauga under a mandatory management order issued by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

Peel Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Tyndall Seniors Village on November 5. Over the past few weeks, the long-term care home has seen an increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among residents and staff and this enhanced support will help.

JBH has been asked to lead monitoring, investigating and responding to the outbreak. In this capacity, the hospital is working closely with the leadership of Tyndall and other health system partners, including Peel Public Health and Ontario Health, to ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to support residents and staff during the outbreak.

Currently, these enhancements include:

  • heightened active screening of residents, staff and visitors
  • COVID-19 testing of residents and staff in accordance with Peel Public Health and provincial guidance and with the support of the Local Health Integration Network
  • education and implementation of infection prevention and control best practices
  • supporting the coordination of additional caregivers

Over the course of the pandemic, JBH has provided voluntary support to a number of retirement and long-term care homes, working side-by-side in Burlington to support residents and staff.

“We all have a shared responsibility to support our most vulnerable populations, including residents in long-term care,” said Eric Vandewall, President and CEO of Joseph Brant Hospital. “We are committed to sharing this knowledge and expertise and working with Tyndall and our partners in Peel Region to ensure residents and staff receive the assistance they need at this critical time.”

“At Sharon Village Care Homes, we are committed to providing our residents with the highest quality of care,” said Shirley Thomas-Weir, CEO of Sharon Village Care Homes, the parent company of Tyndall Seniors Village. “We remain steadfast in providing the care and service our community expects of us and our resolve remains strong. At this time, we are grateful to have Joseph Brant Hospital as our partner in care.”

“We welcome the continued support and collaboration with Joseph Brant Hospital. The assistance with enhanced training and screening in our home will be critical to helping to fight this terrible virus and protect our residents and staff,” said Belisha Ke, Administrator at Tyndall Seniors Village. “With the ongoing commitment of our dedicated care team and the support our community partners, I’m confident our residents are getting the care and attention they need.”
