The Pre-Operative Medicine Clinic is open to patients scheduled for a surgical procedure at our hospital. The goal of pre-operative medicine clinic is to help our staff determine your needs as a patient, and prepare you for your surgery.
Location
The Pre-Operative Medicine Clinic is located within Ambulatory Care, on Level 1 of the North tower 1N 600.
Hours of Operation
Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Referrals
Patients are seen by referral from their surgeon.
Physician
Referrals must be completed by their surgeon. To refer a patient for Pre-operative medicine clinic, complete the request on the Eventus Booking form. A Cumulative Patient Profile must be sent at the time of referral.
Patients
Once referred, the scheduling office will call you to book an appointment.
Services
- Internal medicine assessment by an Internist based at Joseph Brant Hospital prior to the date of surgery.
- Optimize patients for upcoming surgeries and improve patient outcomes and safety.
Preparation
In-person appointment
- Ensure you have your Ontario Health Card or proof of medical coverage.
- Arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to your appointment.
- Check-in at the registration desk.
Virtual appointment
- Follow the instructions provided in your virtual visit confirmation.
- Have a list of your current medications readily available.
What to expect
In-person appointment
- Your visit may take up to an hour or more.
- Blood and other laboratory work may be required depending on the assessment.
