FAQ'S

Does Burlington need a new hospital?

  • Our hospital building no longer meets requirements for best practices for care
  • Beds are currently at full capacity which can impact Emergency Department (ED) wait times and patient flow throughout the hospital
  • New inpatient rooms will be barrier free and much larger
  • 70% single-patient rooms across the new hospital will meet the current Ministry of Health and Long Term Care(MOHLTC) design guidelines
  • State-of-the-art hospital facility with new capacity and service to meet future growth and aging population

When will the New Hospital be complete?

  • Construction for Phase one which includes the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre, hospital administration and a new parking facility is complete and in full operation.
  • The new hospital tower and expansion construction will be complete in 2017.

Will patient and visitor parking be affected?

Parking will be restricted at certain points throughout the construction and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience. As always, we encourage staff and patients to take public transportation but please check the Parking section for regular updates.

How much will the project cost?

The province of Ontario is investing $353.6 million to the project - approximately 2/3 of the total cost of the project. Please visit Infrastructure Ontario's website for more details.

Since the ministry's capital cost-sharing policy for hospital projects does not cover 100 per cent of all costs incurred:

  • Joseph Brant Hospital is responsible to raise $120 million
  • City of Burlington is providing a $60 million civic contribution towards the total local share contribution of $120 million.
  • Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation is embarking on a $60 Million Capital Campaign, the largest in the hospital's history
