Colorectal Cancer Screening Program

Colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed type of cancer in Canada, and is 90% curable if caught early enough. Our Endoscopy unit is part of Cancer Care Ontario’s free Colorectal Screening Program. If eligible, you may be booked for a colonoscopy procedure.

It is recommended that you are screened for this disease if any of the following apply:

  • Have a family history of colorectal cancer in a first degree relative (parent, sibling, or child)
  • Have presented with positive results following an FOBT test
  • Are experiencing any symptoms (rectal bleeding, palpable rectal mass, etc.)

Once referred by your family physician, you can expect to book your screening colonoscopy within an appropriate time frame.

Preparing for your visit
If you are undergoing a procedure in Endoscopy, you may be put under sedation. Please arrange to have a family member or friend drive you home.

  • Please remove all jewelry prior to admission.
  • Please bring minimal belongings.
