Medical Education and Teaching

Joseph Brant Hospital is a Clinical Education Campus (CEC) of McMaster University and is designated as an academic community teaching hospital of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Our hospital is committed to providing medical learners with the knowledge and skills to take them forward in their careers.

We Offer Clinical Rotations to the Following Medical Learners:

  • Medical Students
  • Residents/Clinical Fellows
  • Physician Assistant Students
  • Midwifery Students 

Our Clinical Rotations Include:       

  • Anaesthesia
  • Critical Care Medicine (ICU)

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine - Community Family Medicine Practice, Hospitalist Medicine and Palliative Care
  • Medicine - Cardiology, General Internal Medicine, Respirology
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery - General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology

How to Apply

**Please note that for all medical learners, core rotations take precedence over elective rotations. Elective rotations will be accepted when capacity permits.

Medical Students
  • Core – All core clerkship rotations are facilitated by the Undergraduate MD Office through Medportal lottery.
  • Elective – Elective placements for Post MF4 and Clerkship are arranged through MedSIS. Learn more about UGME Elective Application Process

Residents/Clinical Fellows

Core and Elective clinical placements within the Mac-CARE regions are requested through the Distributed Campus Clinical Placement Application. The application must be submitted at least eight weeks prior to the start date. Learn more about PGME Application Process.
