JBH Helps to Save Five Lives with Trillium Gift of Life Donations

Posted on Tuesday May 24, 2016

In early 2016, our hospital reaffirmed its commitment to saving and enhancing lives through alliance with the Trillium Gift of Life (TGLN) Program. TGLN partners with hospitals across the province to support the donation of needed organs and tissues. April was TGLN’s National Organ and Tissue Donation month, with JBH participating in this campaign, increasing our staff’s commitment to organ donation.

As part of our hospital’s commitment to organ and tissue donation, this month JBH supported the TGLN to successfully retrieve five organs from two patients on two separate occasions, within the same week – a first for our hospital. The first donor was a registered donor and her wishes were clearly known and supported by her family. Through her preparation, advocacy and thoughtful generosity, three lives were saved. With the second donor, as a result of our staff’s commitment to TGLN and the generosity of the patients’ family, his organs were donated, going on to save two lives.

We recognize the collaboration of our staff and the team work across so many departments to facilitate these successful organ donations. From the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Housekeeping, Registered Therapists, Social Workers, Spiritual Care, Nurses to Dr. Rogers, the team of Intensivists and Anesthesiologists, everyone worked together for the best of our patients and to provide the gift of life to five patients which will have a resounding impact for years to come.

The hospital’s collaboration witnessed for these two separate organ donations is a true testament to the great work you, our physicians and staff, do every day at JBH, the compassionate care and exemplary service delivered to our patients and their families. Thank you to each one of you who participated in these life-saving donations.
