Hospital Statement in Response to Recent News

Posted on Wednesday May 15, 2019

We are very sorry any time a patient experiences harm in hospital. We are taking immediate action to understand and address this issue.

Joseph Brant Hospital is committed to providing the highest standard and quality of care for the people that we serve. Our culture is committed to continuous learning and improvement, in an open, transparent, and just environment, premised on hearing directly from patients and families about their care and experience at Joseph Brant Hospital.

Wound care, particularly for individuals having complex and chronic wound-care needs, is a challenge for Ontario hospitals and other care settings. Individuals who are immobile for extended periods of time, and who have certain health conditions, are particularly at risk. Wound care is a significant area of focus from a quality perspective and hospitals, including Joseph Brant Hospital, have developed policies and standards to monitor and address pressure wounds.

Joseph Brant Hospital cannot speak about individual cases as we are committed to ensuring that privacy is upheld in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The hospital takes patient care concerns very seriously, and we are committed to an open and transparent process with patients and families. The hospital undertakes quality of care reviews, specifically looking for opportunities to reduce the risk of further similar incidents, and to improve our overall performance. Joseph Brant Hospital shares this information with patients and their families and embeds our learnings into our ongoing practices.
