An open letter from Eric Vandewall about Recent News.

On behalf of Joseph Brant Hospital, I would like to personally apologize to you, Mr. Wilson and to your family.

We take patient care concerns very seriously. We are taking immediate action to understand and address this issue.

We are conducting a comprehensive and thorough review of Mr. Wilson’s care while at Joseph Brant Hospital and we will hold further meetings with Mr. Wilson’s family, to share and discuss the results of our review.

We would like to join Mr. Wilson and his family in their efforts to improve awareness, and the care of pressure ulcers.

Indicators such as hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and surgical site infection rates are currently not mandatory, publicly-reported indicators.

We know that public reporting will result in system changes, increased awareness, and improved health outcomes for patients. Starting in June, Joseph Brant Hospital will be voluntarily publically reporting our performance on these two indicators, on our website josephbranthospital.ca.

This approach is consistent with our commitment to being open, and transparent with our community, and the people who we serve.

Again, please accept my deepest apologies, Mr. Wilson. I look forward to meeting with you and your family members in the near future.

Sincerely,

Eric Vandewall

President and CEO

Joseph Brant Hospital
