Healthy Workplace Month

Healthy-Workplace-Month

October is Canada's Healthy Workplace Month! To celebrate, we'd like to share some of the great health and wellness programs our hospital offers to help employees live well at work. Throughout October we will be spotlighting staff members who have benefitted from our programs on our Facebook page.

Here are some of the health and wellness programs we offer:

Respectful Workplace Training

At Joseph Brant Hospital, we all play a crucial role in preventing and managing workplace violence. JBH offers two types of Respectful Workplace Training including: Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and Taking Assertive Action Training (TAAT). CIT involves risk management, relationship management, behaviour management, and aggression management. Participants who successfully complete TAAT demonstrate knowledge and skills in reducing workplace violence, harassment, and bullying. Both of these training sessions are available to all staff and take place monthly.

Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

Our EFAP provider is Homewood Health Solutions. Homewood Health provides confidential counselling and coaching on a variety of health related topics. The EFAP also provides support during life's challenges by helping employees take practical and effective steps to improve personal well-being. JBH's EFAP offers online resources that can be accessed at any time at www.homewoodhealth.com

Smoke-free Workplace

Joseph Brant Hospital is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and productive environment for our patients and staff as well as members of the community. As part of this commitment, JBH joined other Ontario hospitals in becoming a smoke-free site on November 4, 2013. The primary goal of the smoke-free initiative is to ensure that everyone is protected from exposure to tobacco smoke. By becoming a smoke-free workplace, JBH continues to strive to provide a healthy environment for everyone.

Wellness Fair

Staff, physicians and volunteers are invited annually to participate in JBH's 2nd annual Wellness Fair. Expert guidance will be available from local vendors on making healthier choices. Vendors will include: Green Shield, Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan ('HOOPP'), TD Insurance, Co-operators Insurance, Johnson Insurance, Goodlife, Homewood Health Solutions EFAP, Halton Public Health, Canadian Diabetes Association and many more! This year, the Wellness Fair will be on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in the Bodkin Auditorium.
